Scottish Veterans Fund 2017-18 Now Open
The Scottish Veterans fund will provide £600,000 of funding over the next three years to a wide range of projects which support veterans, including projects relating to employability, housing, befriending and wellbeing. Charities and other organisations can apply for funding for projects that will help to break down barriers which prevent people who are leaving the armed forces from transferring their skills and disciplines to business, this in turn will make the transition to civilian life easier. For the first time funding for strategic projects will be available for up to three years. Please see the website for further details: http://news.gov.scot/News/Scottish-Veterans-Fund
Brighter Bervie
Brighter Bervie would like to have more active members. The primary activity is gardening in many forms, but newcomers needn’t be horticultural experts nor be big muscled – there’s a variety of tasks to suit everyone and a chance to develop new skills. Regular healthy therapeutic outdoor efforts are usually tackled in a friendly group situation but individuals can work more on their own if they prefer. In addition to hands-on gardening there’s a range of background activities which don’t involve much or any manual work and some can even be done remotely such as assisting office bearers. They meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and on Saturday mornings.
They are looking to fill the following committee member vacancies: Replacement secretary (handling correspondence and record keeping), Funding co-ordinator (searching for appropriate funders and applying for support for specific projects), Communications co-ordinator (circulating news via social media etc.) and an Assets manager (identifying needs for and maintaining equipment etc.). No previous experience is necessary just a willing and enthusiastic attitude and a preference to someone on the local area. If anyone is interested or wants to find out more then please email brighterbervie@hotmail.com
Marie Curie Helper service
The Marie Curie Helper service is provided by trained volunteers who offer
one – to – one support to people with a terminal illness (cancer and other illnesses), completely free of charge. This support may also continue for their carers and families after bereavement. The service was launched in Grampian last August and is now operational with over 30 volunteers across Grampian now trained and ready to offer support.
Marie Curie Helper volunteers support people in their homes, offering a few hours of their time each week to provide a listening ear and companionship;
give families and carers a short break from their caring role; offer practical support, such as accompanying individuals to appointments or simply going out for a coffee; or help with sourcing information on other available support.
A Marie Curie Helper does not provide any nursing or medical care or advice.
Our Helper volunteers are provided with training and support to enable them to undertake their roles.
There are trained volunteers available now in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
If you are interested in finding out a little more about this service or know someone who might benefit from some support please contact:

Pride of Aberdeen Awards
We are delighted to let you know that Fly Cup Catering Inverurie was nominated for these prestigious awards and have now been selected as a finalist! As you may know, Original 106fm launched once again the Pride of Aberdeen Awards earlier this year to recognise those doing amazing things in our lives and workplaces today. The Original 106fm panel of independent judges then shortlisted the nominations and selected their final three to go forward as finalists in each category. We are thrilled to announce that Fly Cup Catering have been chosen as one of the three finalists in one of the categories.
What happens next? Well, the overall winner of each category will be decided by open public vote and announced on the night of the ceremony. All the finalists in each category are being revealed over the next few weeks on air, but in the meantime all the finalists will be listed for public vote on the event’s website as of tomorrow (Tuesday the 11th of October):
http://www.prideofaberdeenawards.com/
Please do feel free to share all this information with your friends, family and colleagues so they are able to support Fly Cup Catering by voting online, which is absolutely free to do.
Fly Cup Catering was set up for adults with learning disabilities in recognition of the self-esteem, social and economic benefits that can be gained by being part of a supportive work and training environment. Trainees gain work experience by helping to run the Fly Cup Coffee shop at Burghmuir Circle, Inverurie. The trainees are also involved in the delivery of outside catering services, and the production of bakery goods which they supply to local shops and businesses. Fly Cup is a Scottish charity which enables adults with learning disabilities to access training and employment opportunities within the catering sector.
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN HELPING YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY TO BECOME MORE ACTIVE?

A Volunteer Walk Leaders Training Courses is being held in Stonehaven on Thursday 6 October 2016. The course is designed to establish a group of local people (aged over 18 years) who are trained to promote and lead Health Walks on an ongoing basis.
Only one day of training is necessary but information will be provided to support development of local walks in Kincardine and Mearns for walk leaders attending the training through Paths for All and through local contacts.
A Health Walk is a short, local, low level walk which seeks to encourage and support people to become more active. A typical health walk usually lasts between 10 minutes and 1 hour.
