Maybe you’re just looking for something to do for a few hours a week or possibly you have more time to spare and are looking for something to do with the family and kids over the school holidays. Then perhaps volunteering is something to consider.

Whether it’s helping out at the local youth club over the summer holidays, or at the local animal shelter or just helping the old lady next door with her shopping, the benefits of volunteering are many.

Volunteering is something a person does in their own time, without pay or compulsion, and which is for the benefit of the community, the environment or other people outside their immediate family.

Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action aims to provide information and advice to people who want to do voluntary work in their local area with Volunteer Development Officers based all over the area including Stonehaven.

Organisations depend on their volunteers and they need people who will be reliable and able to contribute to the work of their project. Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action exists to promote, support and develop volunteering to benefit individuals, organisations and communities across Aberdeenshire and to ensure that volunteering is accessible to everyone. It also aims to support and enable volunteer involving organisations to recruit, retain and manage volunteers effectively.

Community groups and organisations benefit from the input of volunteers by  gaining a new and valued perspective on their work as well as the precious  resource of time. Even a small commitment can have a lasting effect on an  organisation and the people it represents.

If you fancy trying out volunteering and don’t know what to do next or just want someone to talk to or advice on how to go about volunteering then contact the Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, Telephone 01330 825794,  or email south@avashire.org.uk or visit www.avashire.org.uk
