A Big Blethery Alcohol & Drug Success
The Big Blether on Alcohol & Drug in Kincardine and Mearns this month has been a great success!
We have heard from a Family Recovery event and the Drug Proof Your Kids Project.
You have answered alcohol & drug related questions on our Facebook Page and the local Mens Shed Project even won one of the gift voucher prizes!
This all culminated in a fabulous afternoon at Stonehaven Community Centre on Wednesday 25th of February where the air was charged with hope and recovery. The room was packed full of community members, people in recovery, family members, health workers and other professionals in the field. After a lovely lunch, the lovely Wayne Gault, Lead Officer of Aberdeenshire Alcohol & Drug Partnership opened the event by explaining that the people in the room, especially the community members in recovery, were his boss and he was following a vision being shown to him by people who were actively making recovery happen for themselves and these were the people that he wanted to be empowered to do more.
Next we heard from a family member and a someone in recovery about their experience of living with addiction and moving into recovery and this helped set the scene for some moving and invigorating discussions on how we could promote more recovery in Kincardine & Mearns.
There were a lot of suggestions and great ideas and the South Aberdeenshire Alcohol & Drug Forum got a whole load of new member sign ups!
This was just a start. The South Forum would like to take more mini blethers out across the area.
We’ll cover the event properly once the conversations have been recorded and we have the cartoonist pictures (yes, there was a cartoonist there – recovery is fun!).
Let us know here if you would like to be involved.
