Everyone has something to share….

Posted on Updated on

Many people in our communities struggle to feel included and appreciated as an individual.  Shared Lives offers people the chance to contribute to real friendships and become active, valued citizens with a sense of belonging and  confidence in themselves.   caring

Throughout Aberdeenshire we have Shared Lives Carers who share their home and  community with someone with a disability.  This could be for a few hours or a few days as a  short break.  Shared Lives is a flexible, personal partnership between two families.

Shared Lives Carers and those they support are carefully matched for compatibility and shared interests.  For the relationship to be successful and valued, time needs to be taken to make an appropriate match.

For Shared Lives to provide a truly person centred service we need to have carers from a variety of backgrounds and a range of interests and skills.  Shared Lives Carers can be married or single; have a large family or live alone; have experience in care or not.  As long as you have the time, energy and commitment to provide a homely, safe, enjoyable and supportive place to stay you have the skills needed to be a Shared Lives Carer.  Everyone has something different to offer.

Our carers are supported by Aberdeenshire Council throughout.

So… if you would like to be paid to support someone to become part of their community contact 07824 837791 or email suzanne.mahony@aberdeenshire.gov.uk.  Visit www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/sharedlives if you would like to know more.
