At present Luthermuir Walking Club number eight ladies – having recently and sadly lost their only gentleman member.  Read our guest blog from Jill Fairweather, a group member, and hear so clearly in her words the benefits of their coming together.

We meet on Monday afternoons at 2 pm at Luthermuir School which is where we usually return for a cup of tea in the staff room at about 3.30 – 4.00 pm. The staff are very friendly and hospitable and in return we try to support the school in some of their activities and fund raising.  This is our community “bit”.

The walks around Luthermuir itself are limited so we usually take two or three cars and head elsewhere.  Fettercairn (only 3 miles away) has a great selection of varied walks including around the lovely Fasque estate. The Church Hall in Fettercairn sometimes does some fund raising and we have been known to support them for our cup of tea and some lovely home baking! Similarly, Edzell, Glenesk and Laurencekirk are not too far away and provide variety for our walkers.

On a couple of occasions we have taken a picnic to a particularly lovely spot and enjoyed a memorable time.  Once we went to the Brown Caterthun.

CupofTea

Don’t assume we only think about tea!!  We have shared discoveries of such beauty on our doorstep and on occasion have been led by people out with the group to introduce us to a new area.  (If you are interested in being joined by a local countryside expert, read our guest post by K&M’s Ranger)

Because we are all retired we have not felt the need to close for holidays so the numbers tend to fluctuate each week.

Looking back on old notes, I note the first register date was in September 2011 when the group was started by Elaine Dalgety, Community Learning & Development worker at Mearns Community Centre.  So this represents a lot of Mondays and a lot of hours of shared pleasure and friendship.

If you would like to join us one Monday, please contact me, Jill Fairweather on Tel: 01674 840 714
