From 6 to 60, Mackie Rugby Players Raise Funds Together
Can you imagine being committed enough to your sport, club or cause to take part in it for a continuous fourteen hours?
Read on to hear why men and boys in Stonehaven will be doing just that and how your sponsorship could support local talent and gain advertising for your business.
Rugbython at Recloak 23rd August
On the 23rd of August 2014, the players from Mackie Academy Former Pupils Rugby Football Club (FP RFC) will take part in a fundraising Rugbython at Redcloak Rugby Pitches.
In aid of club funds, players from the mini section through to the senior players and Mammoths will play continuous touch rugby for 14 hours, from 8am to 11pm.
Three years ago the club did a similar event which was a roaring success. This year, with bigger squads, more players and parents, the club hopes to raise even more money to go towards developing the massive talent shown by the kids and young adults of the area. Each player is collecting sponsorship individually and each hour of rugby is available for sponsorship by a company or individual at a price of £250, having a range of advertising benefits.
Why Are We Doing This?
Mackie continues to have one of the biggest youth systems in place in Scotland. With a thriving senior section too, we have over 450 playing members and current youth Scotland and district players within our ranks. The club strives and succeeds in developing these players despite having minimal facilities at our disposal. This is done through having a fantastic ethos, great leadership, committed coaches and a spirit across the club, from the youngest micro player to the oldest mammoth, which is second to none.

Author Biography
Andrew joined Mackie Academy FP RFC at the age of 4 years old. Making his way up through the youth section and learning the game Andrew was successful enough to represent his District at 3 age groups (U18, U19 and U21) he was also selected to play for the full Caledonia District team in a Heineken Cup match at Welford Road against Leicester Tigers who at the time were captained by England World Cup winning Captain Martin Johnson. Off the back of all this Andrew was selected to play for Scotland at U19 and U21 level and represented his country in the Junior World Cup in Argentina. Now into his 18th season playing for the 1st XV he has also taken on the role as President of the club.
